My guess: society (or a vertical/channel ecosystem) can remain stable on the surface for a long time. But, forces for change build – like tectonic plates pushing against each other – then boom – a big, fast – earthquake, political order or business model shift – happens.
As I write, C-19 fallout keep increasing. An oil price war is raging. Global financial markets are melting. And, politicians and central banks are pondering more money-printing, can-kicking tactics to stay in power.
What to do? “Stay calm and carry on.”
But, only if you (also) have the right analytical and digital strategy that will win in the Cloud eCommerce world of 2023.
Our brains are wired to duck before we rationally understand what’s coming.
Our fight-flight-or-freeze wiring also focuses and intensifies our thinking on present danger: “tunneling”. So! All-hands-on-deck for navigating the C-19 pandemic! And, striving to be a hero in “the now” is even addictive.
The C-19 pandemic has popped the global, bubble economy. The just-in-time, supply chains and economies loaded with too much debt are all disrupted. Most of the global economy is locked-down. How will the New Normal economy emerge? No one knows. Guesses abound.

Imagine being a distributor in Houston today serving the oil & gas frackers. Boom! Demand collapse!
A less-severe, boom-bust scenario happened in Houston from ’71 to ’85. Oil prices per barrel inflation-adjusted for today: $22.94 in ‘71. Peaked at $117.30 in ‘80. Then, bottomed at $33.97 in ’86.
Since WW2, when the economy tanked, the drill was: freeze hiring, maybe weed a few. Freeze all investments. Cut all discretionary expenses. Try not to cave on declining incentive pay that is de facto salary. Wait out the recession, then get back to growing with: the US Economy; your industry; and/or the inflation in your product lines.
